Before you post, decide who you are speaking to.

No complicated spreadsheet needed. Get to know your audience through three questions.

Your audience is more than an age range

“People aged 20 to 30” is still too broad. Describe a specific situation: someone working full-time who is new to marketing, finds the jargon confusing, and wants to learn in short breaks. Context makes your content direction clearer.

Ask yourself three questions

What problem is the reader facing? What do they already know? What should they be able to do after reading? These questions help you decide where to start and how much explanation to provide.

Refine your assumptions with feedback

An audience description is only a starting point. Notice readers’ questions and feedback, and record common sources of confusion. Your assumptions won’t represent everyone’s needs, and you don’t need a perfect definition from day one.
